IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS
|
|
The Cox vs. Shell Oil Co. Settlement Agreement and the Guidelines established for its administration established specific definitions which govern the meaning of terminology in the Settlement.
- The Installation Date is the date the plumbing was installed in the home by builder/manufacturer. It is not the date the property was purchased or was first occupied.
- The Eligibility Period starts to run upon installation even if the system is never used.
- The term Homes includes site-built houses, modular homes, condos, duplexes, triplexes & quadraplexes.
- The term Mobile Home means a manufactured home originally built to Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) standards. The removal of wheels or method of placement on property does not alter the fact that it is a mobile home. The term does not include campers, travel trailers or motor homes.
- A Mixed Fitting System is one with both plastic and metal insert fittings. It must be originally installed as such to qualify for a 16 year eligibility period.
- A system which has been repaired by installing metal fittings to replace original plastic fittings is not a Mixed System.
- The term Yard Service Line refers to the main supply line bringing water to the home. It is the line from the water meter or well to a Transition Point at which the Interior Plumbing begins. This transition point may be outside the home, at the foundation, in the basement, at the water heater or elsewhere depending on local installation practices.
